Throughout
the ages, there has never before been a more important relationship
between plants and humans than
that of ours with cannabis. It has
been a source of food, fuel and medicine for millennia. The writings
of Confucius,
The Dead Sea scrolls and the American declaration
of independence were written on hemp paper and are still in
existence
today. The early explorers sailed on ships outfitted with over (4)
tons of hemp each. Sails, ropes and
rigging, oakum and sailor's
uniforms were made of hemp as it was the only material resistant
to salt, sun, wind and rain. Though you will never read it in the
history books, many wars were initiated because of hemp-trade interruptions.
Great Britain entered WWII because Nazi Germany cut off the English
Navy's supply of Russian hemp.
Cannabis resins
have been found in incense bowls uncovered from the Great Pyramids,
Mayan and Aztec ruins and in a pipe in the Iceman's poke. Prior
to modern medicine, a cannabis tincture was the base material for
over half of all medicines available to doctors and dentists.
The American Dental
Association lobbied to keep cannabis legal in 1935 as it was the
best substance known to stop the interfering of saliva production
(cottonmouth) during procedures. Since the practice of medicine
has become the business of medicine, it is now by pharmaceutical
industry greed resulting in lower levels of people care.
A pharmaceutical
company cannot patent a plant, as it is not responsible for the
plant's creation and manufacture, therefore its medical benefits
are ignored due to lack of profit potential. It should be intuitively
obvious to the casual observer (meaning any idiot can figure it
out) if government and industry cared about its people / workers
then laws would change yesterday.
